questions & answers

what type of clients do you work with?

i work with a wide range of clients and strive to create an inclusive space where all bodies, identities, beliefs, and experiences are welcome. i primarily work with adolescents and adults navigating concerns such as anxiety, grief, life transitions, relationship challenges, social challenges, and deeper self-exploration.

together, we’ll foster a nonjudgmental relationship built on trust. a therapeutic relationship that allows you to explore your inner world at your own pace. i tend to follow your lead, offering support and reflection as you move through your process.

what is your style of therapy?

i aim to cultivate a relaxed, inviting environment where you can show up exactly as you are. i want to ensure your basic needs feel recognized and met, knowing that without those foundations, it can be difficult to go deeper right away. if staying at the surface feels safest for now, we can absolutely remain there. as trust builds, you might notice me gently inviting us to explore what lies beneath.

i truly believe this is your time, and it should be used in the way that feels most meaningful and supportive to you.

i am not in the business of giving advice, but rather of supporting you in discovering your own insights and decisions. i deeply believe that each of us carries an inner wisdom capable of guiding our growth. your autonomy and agency are gifts to be honored. that said, when it feels helpful or you invite direction, I can be clear and direct in my guidance.

how do i find your office? where do i park?

my office is located at 615 Congress St., in the State Theatre building in Portland, Maine. once you schedule a session, i will provide you with specific directions and a video of how to find my office!

free hourly street parking is available on Deering St. and at the end of Park St. which is just a block away. two hour metered street parking is available on Congress St. and High St. which costs approximately $3 per hour. be mindful of street signs and check for street sweeping days!

how frequently do we meet?

the frequency of our sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. in the beginning, i generally recommend meeting weekly to build momentum and establish a strong foundation for our work together. as therapy progresses, we’ll check in and decide together what frequency feels most supportive for you.

is there anything i need to do before we meet?

before the first session, you will receive intake forms by email. i invite you to fill these out to the best of your ability before we meet. these need to be completed prior to our first session.

what will our first session look like?

during our first session, we’ll take a few minutes to review the intake forms you completed online. most of our time, though, will be focused on getting to know you and beginning to build a foundation for our work together at a pace that feels comfortable. it’s common for these early conversations to carry over into our second session as we continue to explore what’s most important to you. you’re always welcome to ask questions or bring any topics or concerns you’d like to discuss.

what will the atmosphere feel like during our sessions?

you are always welcome to bring food or drinks, step out to use the restroom, or settle in however you need. my priority is that you feel comfortable and at ease, whether we’re meeting in person or via telehealth. in the office, i’ll have tea, coffee, and snacks available if you’d like them.

i encourage you to make yourself at home. kick off your shoes, get cozy on the couch (or in your own space), and find whatever position helps you feel most grounded and relaxed. this is your time, and your comfort matters.

if you ever want to share pieces of your world, photos, art, stories, or journal entries, i welcome that. these offerings can help me understand you more fully and deepens the work we’re doing together.

you are also invited to bring anything that helps you feel supported: a favorite blanket, a journal, or anything else that brings comfort or helps you stay present.

and as always, you’re free to share openly. if it feels helpful to read a text, show your notes, or bring in something that’s been sitting heavy with you, please do. i am here to listen and hold space for whatever you bring.

how will you support me given the current state of our world?

in a time when our world feels especially uncertain, I’m committed to offering a place that is steadily safe. a space where you can bring your fears, concerns, frustrations, and pain without judgement. my space is relaxed, welcoming, and deeply human: snacks, water, and food will always be available, and i’ll also share local resources so you can access practical support when you need it. i will work with you to find supports that meet your needs.
